About Me

My name is Kaitlyn Hemmen and I am 17 years old. I am a student at Cumberland High School who is currently a junior.  I am an active student within my grade and have served as Sophomore Class President. In the future I hope to hold more class officer positions as I advance through my junior and senior years of high school.  Alongside being an active student I am an extremely involved FFA member. Some of my favorite CDE’s (career development events) and LDE’s (leadership development events) include agronomy, forestry, ag sales, and parliamentary procedure. Outside of competing at these events and many others, I attend conferences and conventions that aid in my development as a leader and FFA member. Some of the leadership responsibilities I have undertaken within the organization include serving as our FFA Chapter Reporter, FFA Chapter Vice President, and the FFA Section 20 Sentinel, which is one of my proudest accomplishments.  Another journey that I have embarked on is the CEO class. It is something that I am excited to be a part of. I am looking forward  to learning business and real world skills; both of which I will hopefully use to aid in my future endeavors.  Outside of school I am involved in my church youth group. As a member of the St. Rose of Lima Church youth group I attend monthly religion classes, partake in community service opportunities, and serve at church. Another organization that I am part of is the Cumberland Co. 4-H and the Cumberland Co. 4-H Federation. As a member of the Cumberland Co. 4-H I attend monthly meetings with my 4-H Club, engage in more service projects, and work with my show pigs and cattle in order to get them ready for the local county livestock fair. While serving as a federation member for Cumberland Co. 4-H one of my own and our organization's goals is to work as the link between the community and the 4-H members. I have also held many officer positions within my club and the federation group. Although I invest ample time into the 4-H aspect of owning livestock, I find myself spending much more time attending, preparing, and looking forward to Jackpot Pig Shows. I attend an average 1 pig show per weekend during the months of late April to mid-July. Although I look forward to the pig shows, I have found that I am more fond of the preparation and daily activities that I do to get them ready for each show. In doing this I have found my passion behind the livestock and showstock industry.  This passion has inspired my career goals. I have found that I not only want to be a part of the livestock industry; I aspire to make a difference in the industry that I love. After I attend college and earn my Animal Science Degree,  I plan to become a Veterinarian and eventually run my own Veterinary Clinic.
